We were in the office the other day when Duncan from housekeeping ran to the office to tell us he had found a python. This would be my first snake at Chengeta so I grabbed my camera and ran with the others to some rocky outcrops behind the conference marquee. There nestled against a rocky outcrop was a huge snake in repose. He was bloated from the middle and on close inspection appeared to have been hit by a blunt object just above his head.
A few hours ago; there had been loud shrieks, breaking of branches as something seemed to be struggling through an attack then there had been silence Duncan recounted. 2-3 hours later the unfortunate snake had been found bloated full of monkey.
Pythons though non venomous have lethal muscles they use to constrict life out of their victims then by dislocating their tiny mouth parts they will swallow their victim whole leaving them powerless and vulnerable after such an extraordinary display of strength. Days later the victim through gastric juices will dissolve to nothing leaving the python fully recovered with enough sustenance for a month.
